This video from Corning shows their vision of a near future, with new glass technology at the center of everyday life. I can easily picture this being a reality in the new system, when perfect minds could work out any problems with the idea, and perfect hearts would not abuse it.

I love this! I'd seen it before somewhere else but it was nice to watch it again. One of my best vacations was one where we visited Corning's glass museum in Corning, New York. I'm not sure what I was expecting. Probably something along the lines of the Morse museum here which is full of Tiffany glass, it's dark and a bit old and stuffy (although the pieces are artistically amazing) or I thought with a name like Corning, I'd picture a museum full of plates and dishes lol. It really couldn't be further from those expectations. It was amazing. Between my time spent there and the classes we took while we were there (mostly in hot glass and kiln-work) I was blown away by the science that goes into making and utilizing glass. I have no doubt much of what is shown in that video is achievable. And I agree it's exciting to envision that sort of technology being used in the new system! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I wouldn't have expected anything like this from corning either - just dishes and stuff. This is way more exciting. I think the coolest thing about this is how they depict being able to make nearly any type of surface a digital, touch-screen display. And the way the technology works together so seamlessly.

Some of it is actually already being used. I'd heard at Florida Hospital downtown in the new Disney children's wing of the hospital some rooms had glass windows that could be clear, or when activated turn opaque for privacy. This is probably the kind of glass they used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_glass
But anyway, yes it's exciting stuff. ^_^

Sounds like the exact type of glass used for Transitions lenses for glasses. It is a d efinite fact though that the applications or the elements leading to them are already in practice.
The electronics aspect would definitely be intersting especially for the phones and anything that is transparent.
I know projection technology has had it's advances. Apparently over in Japan for the last few years, virtual pop idols using the Vocaloid system have been big.
Corning provided the Gorilla glass that is part of today's smart phone displays and now they're looking beyond.
As for us, time will tell. During the thousand-year reign, we may get to pursue different things whilst needing to upbuild ourselves and teach those who need to be taught. What we will be able to accomplish is the question, and that will be answered in that time.
I may take a liking to agricultural life, but I hold a fondness for mechanical enginuity.
