They say that beauty is only skin deep.
They also say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
How does that work when the beholder has x-ray vision?

"This monster is called a Beholder. It has nothing to do with beauty."
Wouldn't that depend on the eye of the beholder of the Beholder?

Philosophically speaking, you may be correct. I suppose that to other Beholders, especially members of the opposite sex, this creature may be beautiful or attractive. Of course, that's assuming that Beholders have gender distinctions and that they reproduce sexually. I don't really know for a certainty. Being aberrant creatures from the Far Realm, it's never safe to assume that any of the typical laws of nature apply to them. I guess what I was trying to convey in my caption, was that Beholders have no mythological connection to the possessing or perceiving of beauty. Some do have eye-beams that could melt your face off, which might make them the anti-beauty. ^_^

But see I said the eye of the beholder of the Beholder. The "beholder" could be anyone looking at it, of any species. So surely there must be someone who would look at a Beholder (a member of that species) and think it's appealing to their eyes. I'll take note of it's eye-beams melting my face off though, that's a bit of a detractor. lol
