Never Again...

Just for fun, I used my webcam to record myself singing a song. After playing it back... wow. That was so awful. I laughed so hard I cried. I will never sing in public again.

And before anyone asks, I've deleted the video so I won't be sharing it. I decided it was too dangerous to keep around.

I don't really like the way I sound either. I will join others if they are singing but won't sing on my own. Or I will sing when I'm alone. If you enjoy singing but don't feel confident about your voice, at least let yourself enjoy singing when you are alone or join others...I hope you don't let your dislike of your voice take away from any joy in singing. I don't think either of us sound so bad we should be banded from singing. (Watch any audition round of American Idol and you will soon see that you are far from being a terrible singer!)

In addition to what Siriyah said, I also find hearing your voice recorded almost always sounds at least a little different than your actual voice.

I know I don't mind hearing my speaking voice when I talk to people, but I feel like I really sound different when I hear a recording of my voice. I can't tell you how many times I'll re-record my voicemail greeting because I feel like I sound so stupid and in that instance I'm just talking! I'm not even trying something like singing. >_<

So while it's good to recognize your limitations, like no maybe you'll never sing professionally; I also know you're not bad and you shouldn't feel like you have to give up singing for fun. (wow that sentence was a bit of a run on...>_< anyway you get the idea)

You should not stop singing in public (or should I say the backseat of cars in service). Your voice is to good for that. Continue to sing for fun but I would have loved to have seen that video... it would have been priceless!
